Same Old UAW – Shawn Fain at the Center of Yet Another UAW Scandal
July 17, 2025

Shawn Fain promised everyone that things at the UAW would turn the page on its history of corruption and retaliation when he took office as union President two years ago. But has anything actually changed at the UAW? Of course not!
Fain has been busy using his position to allegedly get special benefits for his friends and family, and to retaliate against anyone who speaks out against him.
Last year, the UAW found itself under investigation (yet again) after Fain demoted several democratically-elected union officers who claimed he engaged in financial misconduct. The UAW spent months fighting this investigation (at the cost of about $6 million in legal fees that members footed the bill for, by the way) before eventually being ordered by a federal judge to turn over internal documents to the investigation.
The documents revealed that Fain allegedly threatened to “slit the throat” of anyone who messed with his inner circle, and improperly demoted the UAW’s treasurer for questioning expenses made by his office. In response to these revelations, a number of UAW members have voted to start the process of removing Fain from his position as union president.
While Fain is busy retaliating against his fellow union officers and spending members’ dues dollars on lawsuits, he’s been offering extended warranties on broken promises down South. The UAW made a big deal about its “win” at VW in Chattanooga, but it has been over a year and the UAW still hasn’t been able to get a contract for its members! The only thing that has been accomplished since the UAW came into VW is the elimination of an entire shift.
The check engine light at UAW is on and UAW leadership may need to be taken into the shop for replacement. While they figure that out, we’re doing just fine here in Vance without them.
